City apartment Baarsjes Amsterdam

A dream transformation in ‘De Baarsjes’. A fresh city apartment with a mediterranean soul, right in the heart of Amsterdam.

This beautiful apartment, located in the vibrant center of Amsterdam’s De Baarsjes district, has undergone a complete transformation. Once closed-off and illogically laid out, it has been reimagined into a bright, open, and stylish urban home with a Mediterranean flair as if it could be tucked away in Milan, yet rooted firmly in Amsterdam.

The layout has been entirely redesigned. Walls were moved, the kitchen was relocated to the front of the apartment, and a seamless flow was created, from sleeping to bathing, dressing to living. From the bedroom, you walk straight into the open bathroom, continue through the walk-in closet, and arrive in the main living area. The kitchen is the heart of the home, featuring a sculptural island with playful lines perfect for breakfast, dinners, and long evenings with friends. The design nods subtly to the 1980s, without feeling retro.

This apartment is my personal home. A place where I've poured in years of inspiration, shaped by a life of travel, creativity, and collaboration. Over time, I’ve collected unique pieces and artworks from designers and artists I’ve met along the way. There’s plenty of space for these personal treasures, each with its own story and memory, adding layers of meaning to the interior.

Throughout the apartment, pure and natural materials were carefully chosen: marble and wooden flooring, porcelain details, and soft textures like linen, mohair, and brown velvet. The living room radiates comfort and elegance, featuring a custom-designed cabinet with space for books, art, and items gathered from around the world. Sightlines were intentionally planned and every corner offers a pleasant view, enhancing the sense of space and calm.

Design classics are effortlessly combined with soft materials and wooden accents, creating a warm, summery ambiance. It’s a stylish urban apartment where the spirit of the '70s and '80s subtly lingers, yet feels entirely contemporary: light, spacious, full of personality and character and unmistakably my own.
