Where Character Rises — Living in De Pijp
On the sleeping floor, a generous bedroom unfolds with a tailor-made bed, custom cabinetry and a carefully selected dresser. An antique chair inherited from the grandmother adds a deeply personal layer, a quiet heirloom woven into the contemporary setting. Serene yet subtly funky, refined yet full of character.
At the very top, the guest room reveals a bespoke workspace, thoughtfully integrated into the architecture. The existing beam structure was softened with a warm ginger hue, enveloping the room in a cocoon-like atmosphere that feels intimate, calm and gently embracing.
Inspired by the understated glamour of a Soho House, the result is not a pristine new apartment, but a home with soul where materials, art and family history come together in a layered, personal story.
For this 100m² apartment in De Pijp, unfolding over three distinctive levels, we envisioned a home where luxury, warmth and expression meet in an eclectic yet serene composition. A full renovation from start to finish, embracing the verticality of the space as both challenge and opportunity.
Upon arrival upstairs, the newly introduced glass kitchen wall immediately sets the tone. With its subtle antique finish, it evokes the quiet allure of a boutique hotel, atmospheric and inviting, becoming the heart and eyecatcher of the home. The kitchen itself is designed with softer, rounded forms, allowing you to move around it effortlessly. As this is a space you continuously circulate through, these gentle curves enhance the natural flow and rhythm of the interior.
A layered palette of burnt terracotta, mossy olive, toasted walnut, dusty blush and a touch of buttercream yellow forms the foundation of the design. These tones are wrapped in tactile wallcoverings, generous drapery and expressive patterns, creating depth and warmth. Emperador marble introduces quiet drama, its rich veining weaving beautifully through the earthy hues. Texture and structure guide the narrative throughout. The interior is a considered mix of design classics and bespoke pieces, balancing timeless elegance with custom craftsmanship.
