A Boutique Hotel Bathroom — in the Heart of the Jordaan

Hidden in the basement of this Jordaan home, the walk-in shower is designed as an intimate retreat. Stepping through the softly arched opening, you’re embraced by glossy terracotta-red handmade tiles that create a warm, cosy atmosphere. The rich colors and tactile materials transform the shower into a unique experience, where architecture and craftsmanship elevate an everyday ritual.

The bathtub niche is the defining feature of this bathroom. During our initial design meetings and while creating the brief for this bathroom renovation in the heart of Amsterdam’s Jordaan district, the clients shared a memorable experience from a trip to Argentina. They recalled how much they enjoyed relaxing in a bathtub that was accessed through an architectural opening, creating a sense of discovery and intimacy.

That story immediately inspired us to reinterpret the idea in a way that suited the boutique hotel atmosphere we envisioned from the very beginning. The bath is framed within a softly arched niche, transforming it into a destination within the room rather than simply a functional element. The result is a space that feels both secluded and luxurious.
